What is Lapidus

Lapidus is a UK organization that exists to promote creative words for health and well-being. At its core is the belief that words used creatively can be a powerful tool for health and personal and community development – through the writing, reading and performing of poetry, prose, fiction, drama and story.

Founded in 1996 and funded by Arts Council England, Lapidus exists to establish links for the exchange of information and ideas, to promote appropriate training and ethical research in the field, and to provide practical support for practitioners.

Lapidus members are writers and poets, medical and healthcare professionals, therapists, social workers, librarians, academics, teachers, service users and service providers in a variety of therapeutic environments – and anyone with an interest in any of these fields.

We are dedicated to developing the potential and actual benefits of creative words in hospitals, health centres, mental health organizations, community settings, and with people who wish to grow and develop personally and creatively.
