Those who write, do so not only to explore, create, and articulate their own understandings, but also to experience a sense of connection with themselves.

This new book invites you to begin your own journey of ‘reconnection’ through writing.

It is part memoir, part exercise book, and includes reflections on the practical and theoretical implications of writing as a healing practice. The book can be read as separate chapters or as a whole.

Writing is more than a way to try to understand ourselves or reframe life’s experiences, it is a process that can bring us wholly into the present (and therefore present to ourselves).

It is also a process that expands our courage, faith, and openness.

The book includes reflections from many years of working with students and others and at the end of each reflection, there is a writing exercise or prompt for the reader to try.

The exercises are suited for the timid, the bold, or anyone who is curious about what (and who!) might emerge when they put paper to pen or get behind the keyboard.

Best wishes,

“What can we gain by sailing to the moon

if we are not able to cross the abyss

that separates us from ourselves?

This is the most important of all voyages of discovery,

and without it, all the rest are not only useless, but disastrous.”
